UPDATE: MY LOCS ARE DOING FINE. I AM ENJOYING MY COLOR. IT SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN LIGHTER...NO MORE COLOR...I JUST WANTED HIGHLIGHTS.

I have been up to a lot.....I colored my locs...yes finally did it, with texture and tones color bronze. I wanted highlights....My locs are progressing just fine. I took a few loose in the front of my face to get some curly Q's. They are soooo cute.

These are pics of my locs for the past few months....I have been so busy, I decided to just wash, seperate the roots, no twisting letting it go...what I learned is to allow my hair to do its thing, and the rootbed is getting thicker...now i dont mind the unkept look so much...it was driving me up a wall. I notice more locs that has the little afro growing underneath, I felt like I could never do that...well not having the time to tend to my hair the way I would like let me know,I could and I did.....LOL One day, I noticed the locs in the back were growing together at the roots....Omg, I had to cut some loose. Right now I am noticing growth!!!!! pony tails finally!!! The product I am using now is PARNEVU T-TREE SCALP OIL..... I put a few drops in water and spritz my hair and scalp.....no itches!!!! I have combined a few locs to make the rootbed stronger for the growth, my locs seems to be growing faster than ever. maybe cause I am not watching, keeping them clean and letting them do their own thing....low maintance works better seems like....

My Grandbaby is almost here....we have 4 more days!!!!!! I am so nervous and excited...The doc visits have been great...She is so big...hard to walk now....I try to keep my mind positive...not thinking scary thoughts....Remember I said this family is unique???? Well both parents are totally blind...My daughter lost her sight when she was 19 years old due to a stroke (she is 23 now)..(docs dont know why) she had a blood clot at the base of her brain....I remember her thinking she wasnt going to make it...I crawled in the bed with her....I told her dying was not an option...she was 1 month shy of finishing cosmos school. Beautiful healthy young woman. She met her husband in the school for the blind...married a year ago, and now they are expecting their first child. How are they going to raise a child blind? Can they handle it? You would be surprise how the human heart and mind survives and thrives...The baby doesnt know her parents are blind, they will adapt. Yes they can with a little assistance from family. Alana will thrive under the watchful eyes of many...I am BIG MAMA. Every southern family has one......LOL

Alana Joi....This is my first grandchild...she will be born hopefully on April 19,2006. I am so excited. So you see I am really busy trying to keep the parents calm....The mother is my daughter. This a very unique family...I am so happy she will know how to care for her natural hair...I am writing about caring for locs and natural hair. My personal experiences and hair recipes and advice I recieved...Some folks leave family recipes for sweet potatoe pie (my favorite). I feel like this is important because, we as AA, havent been taught by our ancesters, how to care for our natural hair. We are told that our hair is ugly, nappy and need to be tame with chemicals. We are not taught that we have a natural beauty. Our black skin is beautiful, our kinky,nappy,coily,untame hair is beautiful....I was told that her name Alana means beautiful....This is my legacy to my grandchildren. Starting with her. Each son and daughter will get a copy of my writings and pictures of how their Bigmama take care of her locs. I am so happy and overjoyed. This is the start of a NAPPY NATION!

Hats off......time to experiment with new do's...I am not into funky styles. I am moderate in taste. I like pizzazz but nothing shocking.

I love this time of the year....Seems like things are coming back to life...I can wash and go with my locks... locing my hair was the best decision for me. I have no second thoughts....2 full years already!

TODAY IS WASH DAY.....I WASHED MY HAIR WITH DILUTED SHAMPOO/BAKING SODA -COCONUT MILK... I RINSED REPEATEDLY... I DIDNT USE CONDITIONER CAUSE IT MAKES MY NEW(babies) LOCS SHED, AND THAT STOPS THEM FROM MATTING UP.THEN I FILLED A GALLON JAR OF ACV/WATER. ALL THE TRASH THAT WAS IN MY HAIR, OMG...DIDNT WANT TO SHOW THE PIC. CAUSE IT MIGHT MAKE SOMEBODY ILL.....LOL (me)... I HAVE NEVER DID THAT BEFORE, I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD GET A LOT OF BUILD UP OUT OF MY LOCS. I DIDNT KNOW I HAD BUILD UP. SO THIS ROUTINE IS A KEEPER...TO TOP IT OFF...I PUT 3 DROPS OF PEPPERMINT(eo) INTO A LARGE CUP OF WATER AND POURED ON MY HAIR...MY LOCS ARE TIGHT AND SOFT....I FEEL LIKE A PEPPERMINT PATTIE.... ;0)

I AM HAVING A LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH MY HAIR!(Im a bit of a mad scientist!!!) I PUT BURGUNDY COLOUR IN MY HAIR.... IT DIDNT TAKE!!!!! AND ON TOP OF THAT, IT WAS DRY AND THE ENDS WERE HARD....THIS WAS MY SECOND ATTEMPT...... IN THIS PIC YOU MIGHT CAN SEE A HINT OF COLOR. THE SECOND ATTEMPT I ONLY GOT A HUE!!!!!! THEN I DISCOVERY A FEW LOCS WITH LINT TIPS!! TALKING ABOUT A BAD HAD DAY? OMG... I CALLED CALIFORNIA ON THIS ONE....SHE TOLD ME TO USE COCONUT MILK , OLIVE OIL. AND SHO'NUFF MY LOCS ARE BABY SOFT ONCE AGAIN. (the first time I called California) I HAD MIXED SOME TREE TEA OIL AND CLARIFYING SHAMPOO TOGETHER THAT SET MY SOUL A-FIRE!!!! I HAD SCALP BURNS FROM THAT ONE. I DONT MESS WITH THE TREE TEA OIL NO MORE!!!!!! (back to the present...that was a blast from the past) NO MORE COLOUR,DYES etc.......I WILL BE SATISFIED WITH THE HINT, HUE OF BURGUNDY...:0(........! I DECIDED TO PUT MY INTEREST IN MAKING MY OWN HAIR ACCESSORIES.... (I am creative to) I WONT HAVE TO CALL CALIFORNIA OR RISK DAMAGING MY LOCS. I WAS SURPRISED WITH THE COCONUT MILK....I DID PUT A COUPLE DROPS OF LEAVE IN CONDITIONER IN IT. (the lint?) I CUT THE TIPS....:0p....LOL

It was wash day again....this time I decided to go old school. What did people do before they invented rollers? Someone told me they used brown paper bags. After washing, I took strips of paper and folded and rolled my locs....The curls were tight. Can you believe UNEXPECTED GUESS came by and saw me like this? I know they really think I am a nut now.....lol Get this, the paper bag rollers are reusable, Just put them in a ziplock bag til the next time....lol

THIS BLOG IS ABOUT MY LOCKING EXPERIENCE. I AM INTO MY SECOND YEAR OF LOCING, MY HAIR AMAZES ME SO MUCH. AS A CHILD, I WAS CHEMICALIZE, TOLD NOT TO WET MY HAIR, PRESSED AND THE HOUSE SMELLED OF BURNT FRYING HAIR. THE HOT COMB WOULD SIZZLE AND THE OIL WOULD DRIP ON MY SKIN AND BURN. IF I JUMPED, I WOULD GET BURNED TWICE, ON THE SCALP, THE EARS OR HIT FOR MOVING IN THE FIRST PLACE.......MY HAIR FELL OUT AT THE CROWN OF MY HEAD. NERVES, CHEMICALS AND PULLING DID ITS JOB. IT IS STILL NOT AS THICK AS I WANT IT TO BE......I STARTED WEARING MY HAIR NATURAL. IT COULDNT BE CUT TO SHORT FOR ME...I ADMIRED THE SISTAS WITH SHORT FROS. SO A SHORT FRO I SPORTED FOR YEARS... THEN MY HAIR BEGIN TO GROW IN HEALTHY, I DIDNT WANT TO CHOP IT OFF. IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. I RESEARCHED NATURAL HAIR. AND WHEN I SAW LOCS.....OMG!!!!! THEY WERE THE MOST INTERESTING, BEAUTIFUL THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN..... BUT COULD I DO IT MYSELF? WHAT WOULD PEOPLE SAY OR THINK( I DIDNT CARE MUCH) CAUSE I WAS IN A BATTLE. I WAS WOUNDED AND TIRED OF THE CHEMICAL BURNS, BUMPS THAT WOULD MAKE MY MIND HURT. AND BALDING SCALP....I COULDNT CARE, IF I DID, I WOULD STILL BE IN THE WAR ZONE......
